Japa Meditation, Transcendental Meditation and More…
 Japa Meditation
It is an ancient method to clear the mind and create a sense of peace within which has been practised by all religions.
It involves chanting a mantra, which in most instances are composed of Sanskrit letters which are arranged so as to evoke a certain response from within the individual.
In contrast to TM, in Japa Meditation, mantras can also be any word or phrase which evokes a sense of calmness, inspiration, and even respect, such as repeating the name of God, or anything else. The mantras may be said allowed or silently.
Also, unlike TM, it may be practised under any circumstances, as well as while sitting down for ‘formal meditation’.
Transcendental Meditation (TM)
It has many unique features and one of them is the mantra.
As part of personal instruction each student receives a suitable, but meaningless, thought/sound ( mantra) for their meditation practice, which they repeat silently within while sitting comfortably, eyes shut.
TM allows the mind to be ‘lively’ but undirected at the same time, so it can sink deep within, gliding through deeper, more silent levels of the thinking process until it ‘transcends’ thought and experiences its own silent, inner nature.
This is the process called ‘transcending’ which takes place during the Transcendental Meditation technique.
Many scientific studies have proved that TM produces great benefits for both body and mind, including lower blood pressure, lower heart rate and increase skin resistance.
While meditators using this method almost always report greater clarity of mind, higher levels of energy and much better ability to cope with stress.
