These Hamstring Stretches, by releasing any held tension, will make you feel better in your legs, buttocks, back and neck.
Hamstrings are very large muscles. They often need a long time to stretch out to their fullest. So, be gentle!
Hamstring Stretches should be as much about 'relaxing' as 'stretching' them (ie not too hard!); also, proper breathing helps tremendously.
This exercise leaves me with a feeling of 'coolness' and 'space' in my legs.

Hamstring Stretches
Basic Stance:
- Standing, feet parallel and shoulder-width apart, knees well bent and pelvis 'rolled under', with spine and neck straight throughout the exercise
- Clasp your hands together, placing them down your lower back, with arms straight
- Then, keeping your arms at full stretch, while lifting them back and up...
- You slowly roll the spine forward and down, towards the feet, one vertebra at a time (at least visualise it doing so!), folding at the waist and straightening your legs at the end of the movement as far as COMFORT will allow.
- The arms should just 'be' straight over the back with no effort
Breathe in, while you STRETCH and increase the tension in your hamstrings Breathe out, feeling the muscle RELAX
- Stay in this position for a short while, feeling the release in your lower back, upper back, neck and head, as well as in the back of the legs, with these wonderful Stretches
This above exercise is a great help too as
Lower Back Pain Stretches
- To straighten up and return to the Basic Stance: Start by slowly bending your knees, gently tilting your hips forward 'from under' to help 'roll up' the spine, one vertebra at a time, letting the arms slowly come back down to where they started, right down the lower back.
